Cambridge Open Studios 2011 - Paul Rodhouse

Paul Rodhouse exhibiting with me.

Paul Rodhouse has exhibited with Cambridge Open Studios for many years.  This year Paul is exhibiting with me here at my gallery and studio at Highworth Avenue on the 9th and 10th July 2011. Paul is a scientist whose research takes him to the Antarctic where he finds the inspiration for many of his paintings in which he captures the light, the abstract shapes and the sheer majesty of the southern polar region of our fragile planet. Paul works in acrylic and oil on medium to large sized canvases or board.

Here are a few samples of his work.

Charity Art Auction at Haddenham Galleries

Helping at a Charity Auction.

On Saturday 16th July 2011 from 6:30 until 8:30pm I will be participating in an art exhibition and auction, raising funds for Cam-Mind and the Christina Noble Children's Foundation. Over 25 local artists are participating by donating pieces to be auctioned off, and these include paintings, prints, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, drawings and illustration. There will also be food, drink, a message from Keith Evans, the Chairman of Cam-Mind, and live entertainment, as well as the opportunity to explore the beautiful setting of Haddenham Galleries.

If you are unable to attend on the 16th July but would still like to bid on something from the collection, go to the I Think Therefore I Ambulance website which also supports online bidding. Simply enter your maximum bid for each item and we'll do all the hard work for you on the night!

So Mango Gig

So Mango perform at the Portland Arms

The four-member band So Mango performed at the quirky small venue The Portland Arms on Friday 10th June. David and Rosemary, photographed here, will be performing at my Open Studios private party. The evening was raising money for the Chesterton Community College Bus appeal. It was an excellent evening!

Open Studios is not far off

That time of year has come around again very quickly: the Cambridge Open Studios is only a couple weeks away. I am sending out invites and programmes to everyone on my mailing list over the next couple days.

New 2011 Work - Norfolk Talks

Announcing a new collection

My new body of work for 2011 is called Norfolk Talks.

Every time I visit the Norfolk coast I fall in love all over again with the landscape.  I have been wanting to work on a series for some time now and 2011 has been the year to start work on it.  I have added a new gallery which contains a couple of my new paintings in this collection.  My inspirations have come from Brancaster, Old Hunstanton, Cley and Mundesley.

Beechdale Energy

I am currently working with Beechdale Energy, producing cards for some of their publicity campaigns. Break Through is the chosen painting that will feature in local promotions.

Cambridge Drawing Society

I will be exhibiting two paintings at The Cambridge Drawing Society Spring Exhibition from 2 April until 9 April 2011.  The exhibition will be held at The Guildhall Cambridge.

The Cambridge Drawing Society must be one of the oldest in the UK, having been founded in 1882. Despite its name, it does not just show drawings, but a wide range of paintings, mixed media items, batik, sculpture and limited edition prints (not photographs, digital prints or domestic pottery).

The two paintings exhibited, and for sale are:

Sprawl, oil on canvas paper, framed in birchwood, 54 x 36 cm.

Suffolk Light

Suffolk Light, oil on board, framed in birchwood, 51 x 40 cm.

Cambourne Art For E.A.C.H., Cambs, UK.

Cambourne Art For E.A.C.H. is a one night only special art exhibition and charity fundraising event in aid of E.A.C.H. (East Anglian Children's Hospices). A group of local artists have gathered together to create this wonderful event, donating 30% of all sales proceeds on the night to EACH. There will also be a charity raffle with a selection of fantastic art prizes, generously donated by the participating Artists/Makers and other prizes donated by our sponsors.

I am exhibiting and donating a painting to this wonderful event.

In 2010 I held an event at my gallery and studios raising funds for The National Autistic Society.   Eleven artists helped raise £2,300 by holding an auction and exhibition.

We are really hoping to raise a similar amount for E.A.C.H. on the 7th May 2011.  This time the event will be held at Craig Kerrecoe's house in Cambourne, an up and coming new town just outside Cambridge UK.

I Think Therefore I Ambulance Exhibition

On Sunday 10 April I am donating a framed oil on canvas original painting to help raise funds for The Christina Noble Children's Foundation.  Alice Clough is embarking on an adventure - driving an ambulance in the Mongol Rally.  This is a race from the UK to Mongolia and her team is called I Think Therefore I Ambulance. Alice asked me to donate a painting and the event appealed to my sense of adventure while raising money for a good cause.

The event will take place at Nomads, 5 Kings Parade, Cambridge.

The donated painting is called Grasses. Original oil on canvas paper framed in pale birchwood, 53 x 43 cm.

Cambridge Open Studios 2011 with Paul Rodhouse and Craig Kerrecoe

Cambridge Open Studios exists to promote the making of original works of art and craft and to provide an opportunity for the public to become involved in the arts by meeting artists in their studios, seeing their work and how it is produced.

For over 30 years, Cambridge Open Studios has been at the heart of a flourishing creative community working in and around Cambridge. The centre piece of its calendar is an annual OPEN STUDIOS event that takes place across four weekends in July, when over 200 people open their studios and put their work, and how it is made, on display.

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July I will be exhibiting here at my gallery and studio at 59 Highworth Avenue, Cambridge CB4 2BQ with Craig Kerrecoe and Paul Rodhouse.   I am really excited to be exhibiting with Craig and Paul this year.  Paul is Head of Biological Sciences at the British Antarctic Survey (Natural Environment Research Council) who combines art and science with inspirational results. This will be my fourth year of exhibiting with COS.
